The purpose of this paper was to explore intervention strategies for students with developmental disabilities transitioning to the community and workplace from school. The researchers explored the lack of occupational therapy's current role in the transition process, and the vital role that they could play in this process. Two individuals with intellectual disabilities in high school were interviewed, observed, and administered intervention at their workplace, following noted difficulties existing for these individuals in the workplace. These difficulties include time management and social skills. Implementing timers, checklists, and verbal cues in these areas were useful in addressing these difficulties and increasing success at the workplace. Individuals also benefited from occasional physical assistance, although the interventions implemented aimed to reduce that assistance. Limitations of this study include a small sample size and limited time. Further research is warranted in this area in order to explore other intervention options with a larger sample size, over a longer period of time.
